In the mobile world of tablets, people like either a compact seven- to eight-inch screen that fits very easily in packs and purses or a slightly larger 10-ish-inch screen, and its in the latter variety that the Leveno ThinkPad Tablet comfortably rests. It isn’t quite up to the mark of the iPad or the Samsung Galaxy Tab quality, but it’s easily categorised as a mid-level tablet that has a bit more going for it than an entry-level or a beginner’s tablet.

Overview

Strongly reminiscent of the IBM ThinkPad of olden times, it does have more advanced technology on its side.

Aimed at the business user, the Leveno ThinkPad offers decent processing speed, lots of extra ports, including a microSD slot, USB ports and a micro-HDMI port for exterior viewing options.

The mobile device is rather heavy, though, so casual use is not easily accomplished with 748 grams to heft around.

Well-grounded in the Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system, the device has some very familiar hardware inside, and Android lovers will find comfort in that familiarity.

The optional faux-pen stylus adds a nice touch.

MobilePhones.org.uk staff try our best to find accurate information on your behalf, but the information provided may not be current or accurate. Whenever possible, we mention if its based on rumours or unofficial information.

Dimensions: 182 x 260 x 14.5 mm / 748 g
Display: 10.1 inches / Active Matrix TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen / 1280 x 800 pixels.
Operating System: Android 3.1 Honeycomb
Speed: NVIDIA chip; dual core Tegra 2 processor
Memory: 1 GB RAM / 32 GB Flash memory, expandable via microSD card
Battery: 8 hours straight run time.
Connectivity: WiFi: 802.11b/g/n // 3G, as well, but in a different model.

Additional comments: Straight retail price: £821 but can be found at roughly half that online. Poor AVI playback, alas. Some models offer 16 GB or 64 GB memory capacities; the one reviewed is the mid-range model. Dual front and rear cameras at 2 MP and 5 MP, respectively. SIM slot for optional 3G card; built-in Bluetooth and WiFi connections. Camera SD card slot. USB port available for external add-on devices like a keyboard or a keypad.

The touch-capacitive screen responds to both finger and swipe action as well as the optional stylus.

Overall opinion: Not easily satisfying as a personal tablet with all its video and audio demands, but for a business tablet, it’s not bad for a mid-ish 2011 model.
